Last week, AIA Oregon’s Oregon Architecture Awards recognized our Raleigh Slabtown project with a Citation Award in the Residential Architecture category. This year’s jurors said they were impressed not only by the structure overall, but by the way our team integrated the outside with the unique and luxe interiors.

Raleigh Slabtown was designed as a contemporary interpretation of the Slabtown neighborhood’s historic warehouse and mill district buildings, meeting the 21st century with extensive ground floor retail and restaurant space, connections to nature, and amenities that foster community.
Sited on an irregular-shaped lot, the building is broken into two wings connected by a glass link to create the partial block massing desired by the neighborhood. The façades of face brick evoke in a modern way the warehouse buildings prevalent in historic Slabtown, with a limestone color brick used in the east wing and a grey brick blend used on the west wing. Extensive, rich brick detailing around window openings, at the base of the building, and at main entrances all create a strong graphic texture. Custom wood storefronts with sliding glass panels are used at all of the retail frontages and main entrances, evoking the lumber heritage of the district.
Our shared vision with the client was to deliver to residents a place to be an explorer, with layered opportunities to discover Slabtown’s rich history and culture. Details like custom, handpicked art, coffered ceilings and mosaic work feel both classic and timeless. Meanwhile, Raleigh Slabtown spotlights in many ways the Northwest’s greatest asset: the beautiful and serene outdoors. Lushly landscaped outdoor spaces woven throughout the project offer unexpected delight in this urban setting. Perhaps the pièce de resistance is the 6th floor rooftop terrace, where residents get a unique perspective on the canopied city.
